The safety line has a loop on one end that can simply be looped around the railing. The soft shackel opens when you pull the yellow tab. This means that you can release the safety line with one hand, and with a total length of approx. 1.3m, you can also unproblematically drill with the safety line still attached to the rod. We decided against using carabiners etc., to prevent any damage to the rod, reel or boat.
